2007
In addition to our regular grants and in conjuction with the relocation of the Communications Center to the Police Department, we applied for and received $ 23, 000 from grant through the Executive Office of Public Safety for Remodeling a Police Department. This money was used to purchase and intall a new generator to power the Police Department and Communications Center, as well as the Town Hall, in the event of a power failure.
In December 2007, we received the Governor's Highway Safety Bureau grant for $ 4,500 to conduct Drunk Driving, Road Respect, and Click It or Ticket It Mobilizations from December 2007 through September 2008. In addition to the $4,500 for patrols we have also been awarded $ 3,000 to purchase equipment. We plan on purchasing a PBT ( Portable Breath Test) and a moving radar for one of our cruisers. We may also purchase new speed monitoring equipment to help regulate speed limits.
In October 2007, the Dalton Police Department was again awarded $ 45,600 in Community Policing money. This grant will allow us to continue with the programs we currently run and sponsor; including but not limited to Bike Patrols, OUI Patrols, Light Up the Holidays.
2006
In November 2006, the Dalton Police Department was awarded $ 45,600 in Community Policing money. This grant will allow us to continue with the programs we currently run and sponsor; including but not limited to Bike Patrols, OUI Patrols, Light Up the Holidays, and COPS in School funding.
Also in November 2006, we applied for and was awarded a Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau Grant Award in the amount of $4, 500. The Grant includes 5 mobilizations, including Ticket or Click it and You Drink. You Drive. You Lose.
Also, our department was fortunate to receive, through the Western Region Homeland Security Advisory Council, as part of the Berkshire Law Enforcement Council and Berkshire COunty Chiefs of Police, a grant for $ 9,900 in computer software and support in order to create information sharing and connectivity between all full-time police departments in our county. This particular grant is a milti-phase project, in which our department has also tentatively been approved for $ 21,000 in funds for additional software, support and service to accommodate Mobile Data Terminals in two of our cruisers, which we are hoping to have installed by June.
