Local man allegedly threatened officers 07/02/07 DALTON — A man who allegedly threatened three police officers with a pair of scissors was arrested yesterday following a brief standoff. Dalton police arrested Robert Zurrin, 61, yesterday morning and charged him with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disorderly conduct. Police said they were summoned to Zurrin's home at 8:39 a.m. after a relative reported that Zurrin was acting out of control and putting others in fear of harm. Two officers arrived and called for a third as backup. Once on the scene, police said, they tried to reason with Zurrin but were unable to convince him to go peacefully. Zurrin allegedly threatened the officers and lunged at them with scissors. Police called for yet more backup but were able to subdue Zurrin before it arrived. Zurrin was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where he was arraigned yesterday. Judge Fredric D. Rutberg set bail at $1,000. — Jack Dew |
